What happens when every family member keeps serious secrets from everyone else? When you read Mercury, you'll learn a lot about how secrets corrode trust, but also how love can continue to grow, and how a family can, eventually, move past dysfunction and become what they've always wanted to be. Marley is a 17-year old girl whose single mom moves often, from job to job as a nurse. When she moves to the town of Mercury, near Pittsburgh, she soon meets the Joseph family including the mother, Elise, the father, Mick, and the brothers, Baylor, Waylon, and Shay and becomes enmeshed in their lives. This changes the trajectory of several characters lives and what we read is a story of the making, unmaking, and remaking of a family. The writing is strong and honest. I felt the characters joys, pains, and sorrows right along side of them. I was sad to leave the story of the Josephs.
