This book burrowed into my heart in a way I didn't expect. This is a quiet family story that shows how bonds are made, tested, broken, renewed, changed over time, and the unique ways each family makes them. I loved that readers get the perspective of all the Joseph brothers in the story as well as Marley with her unique connections to each of them as the the thread that connects this family through a new lens on love. The small town setting of Mercury, with its limitations as well as what keeps people there, was excellent as well. Readers are left getting to make their own conclusions on exactly what happened at one pivotal story moment, and the story is stronger for that, and it's interesting to see how other readers connect or interpret these parts of the story. This story is an emotional, character driven slow burn that will leave an impact on its readers.
