I wasn’t super familiar with this book but I was intrigued by it. I’ve seen it on social media a few times. I haven’t read the author before but I looked forward to this excerpt hitting BookishFirst to see what it was all about.
The writing style is absolutely gorgeous. There’s something that makes it feel like an instant classic. I started reading and thought, oh I hope the storyline is good because I am totally sold on the writing style.
The characters are interesting. It feels like a small town, two adult brothers close in age who are not close with their dad. Waylon is married with a child. The brothers work together for their dad’s company. And this excerpt starts with the brothers investigating a leak in a church, only to find something incredibly shocking in a practically abandoned room. I was on the edge of my seat. I’d read almost twenty pages in minutes and by the time they had their discovery in the church I knew I had to read this book!
