This First Look at Mercury is my first experience with the work of Amy Jo Burns, and I love it! Appalachian literature is among my favorites (especially stories set in my beloved home state of Pennsylvania) and I love the gothic/noir opening with the discovery of a body in the church attic. I'm definitely interested in learning more about the Joseph family and all of their secrets. This excerpt reminds me of books by David Joy, another stellar "grit lit" author. Can't wait to read more!
