All aboard the Titanic! Be prepared to be swept away.
After the lady she worked for passes away, Valora decides to seek out her brother. Last she heard, he would be on the Titanic for her maiden voyage. However, Chinese are not allowed into America, and Valora ends up sneaking aboard. When she finally finds her brother, the dreams they once shared have now become one-sided. Before she can deal with her brother, first she must find a place to sleep before her antics get her thrown in the brig.
Full disclosure: I've loved learning about the Titanic since its discovery in the late 1980s. I really enjoyed this walk aboard the Titanic. Valora observes her surroundings with a poetic eye. They say the devil is in the details, and the author has an excellent grasp of the time period. Valora is determined and quick thinking, and she encounters a variety of third-class to first-class passengers all within the first 50 pages. This was an exciting preview and I have my fingers crossed I get to read more soon!
