I am obsessed with the Titanic and try to read everything I can get my hands on about the doomed ship. After reading the beginning of the book, I am intrigued by the unique and interesting viewpoint. I have never read a book of the Titanic from the viewpoint of someone who is Chinese. The book states that 6 of the 8 Chinese on the ship survived. Of all the books I've read on this topic, none has ever even mentioned that there were Chinese aboard. I am so interested to learn about Valora and her unique struggles, how she managed to get on the ship in the first place and how her dreams of America differ from those we are used to hearing about, not to mention how she was able to survive the sinking of the Titanic.
