I was really excited to read this book and thought it would have a lot of mystery, darkness and twists. There was a mystery and some parts were literally dark but I kept waiting for some big reveal or game changer in the story that never came. There were no big surprises for me, it was rather predictable. This story was much more an examination of relationships (parent-child specifically) more so than the murder mystery it is presented as.
I also felt like I was being tossed back and forth between time periods. Don't get me wrong, I love a good flashback and understand how it is needed to develop the story, but this seemed excessive. Every couple of pages you are bounced back or forth. I found myself wishing for a little continuity from time to time.
I will say that the story did keep my attention and it was a quick read. It just fell a little flat for me.
