Light From Distant Stars is a novel of family, memory, and secrets. The reader learns that Cohen Marah has just found his father's body in the basement of their family funeral home. The author, Shawn Smucker, introduces the reader to other characters too: Cohen's father Calvin, Cohen's mother, his Sunday school teacher Ms. Flynne, and his sister Kaye. From the beginning of the book, the reader is not sure what is real and what isn't. We're not sure why Calvin lost his position as a church pastor, how Cohen and Calvin bonded over the game of baseball, and if Cohen had anything to do with his father's death.

I really like the plot of this book, and the writing is superb. There is so much visual appeal to this book; Smucker connects his readers so well to the characters in the novel.

I'm looking forward to reading this entire novel and being able to find out what happens to the characters. I would definitely recommend this one!
