This book starts with Cohen in church listening to his father as a small child then quickly transitions to finding him in a pool of his own blood in the mortuary that he runs. The state of his father leads him to start having flashbacks of his childhood when something happened that broke up his family. Maybe this book ties everything neatly together as it goes along but in the preview everything feels pretty amorphous and random, just like the thoughts in Cohen's head.
