Adventurous historical fiction
This book has a great idea and fabulous characters but it didn't grab me the way I thought it would. I've studied World War 2 for most of my life as a passion project so I was really looking forward to adding this to the collection of books I already have.
I was a bit disappointed overall though by the story. It just fell flat to me and left me wanting.
The writing is well done, carefully thought out and looks good. The cover is brilliantly colored which should grab the readers' attention. I loved the dynamic between Saffron and Gerhard and how quippy they are together.
Occasionally the sexual relationships in this book just went too far for me, the "game" played by the officer and his wife made me uncomfortable and I needed to skip it. I'm not one for abusive relationships in any way and that was triggering to me so just to warn others that might have the same triggers.
