This story unfolds much as a typical post-World War II adventure, with the unique exception that it is set in Africa. A cannibalistic, violent tribe murders two Christians, conveniently name Mary and Joseph, to illustrate the ruthless nature of their group. This is juxtaposed between an English/German couple, who found love after the war.

Overall, I felt the characters slightly trite and the stereotype of a ruthless African tribe to be problematic. The cover is similarly stereotypical of most adventure books. Overall, I'm content to let this one lie.
