The two things I appreciated most about the first couple of chapters was how well-written they are and then the wonderful balance between giving information about the setting, character development, and action. While this deals with some incredibly hard hitting topics and gruesome actions, it builds to them in a way that doesn't feel exploitive or for shock value. I think this has the potential to be wonderful.
