this book was super sweet, and definitely got me intrigued in the secondary characters' stories as well (so thank goodness for the fact that this is book is the first in a series, rather than just a standalone!)

there are some elements of insta-love, but the rest of the book was such an enjoyable read that the insta-love didn't break my immersion in the book or prevent me from wanting to find out what happened next in the plot. this was an interesting realization, but i think that some of the cliches and tropes worked because the rest of the story / plot was unique enough to sort of subvert expectations (maybe?)

also! quick note, i listened to the audiobook, and i'm always curious whether listening to a book vs reading a book will produce a different experience for me. sometimes, i can become immersed in the story more easily when i'm listening to it, but other times, i end up getting distracted.

overall, this was a lovely romance book, and if i had written this review immediately after my first time reading this book, i would've probably said something like, "i can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series!" but surprise, surprise! i've already read the second book in the series so instead i'll say: i can't wait to read the third book in the series!
