I hadn’t read a romance novel in years when I picked this up. I’m so glad I did! The basic premise is that Stella has decided that she needs sex lessons so she, being logically minded, hires a professional. Michael is that professional. Korean American Michael works days in his mother’s dry cleaning shop, tailoring garments, and nights as an escort. Stella believes that she is no good at sex. Michael believes that he is no good at relationships. Soon enough they are having sex and growing more intimate while still holding each other at arms length.
Of course, something has to give. I think I fell in love with both characters when they interacted with Michael’s family. Stella, when she accidentally hurts people that she cares about, makes amends. Michael is as caring as can be with his family. Ultimately it is the love and care between them that makes this novel really work.
