As an author myself I have great respect for anyone who can finish writing a novel. I really wanted to like this book. When I read the first pages, I thought I would. It was gripping and left me wanting more. As I read deeper into the book there were very glaring errors for me. The dialogue was stiff and unnatural. None of the characters could be distinguished by what they said.

The plot had some very fascinating elements. The fractured moon, the magical system, the political drama. The elements as they're presented in the current story are overwhelming. I didn't care about any of the characters, least of all Michael Kingman. He has many character flaws and his character arc resolves them by the end. At the conclusion of the story, I was left feeling disappointed by what felt like a rushed conclusion.

This book feels more like a first or second draft. There are redeeming elements that could be developed to make it a very great novel, but it needs revisions and refining to get it to that point.
