"The Kingman family did not die with whimpers. History was shaped by our births and deaths, and whether I liked it or not, I would be no exception."⁣

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 I had high expectations for The Kingdom of Liars. My first impression screamed POTENTIAL. See for yourself...⁣

"When I first read the words "shot down by the moon", I thought it was a figure of speech. I was delighted to find out that in fact somehow, Hollow had managed to actually shatter the moon and now the whole place is in danger of the falling pieces that flame into the atmosphere like meteorites. I already feel invested and I think that's due in part to the fact that the story is told from Michael's point of view. We all know that magic comes with a price and this time, the price is your memories. I can't wait to find out more about the truth Michael knows that the now-dead king wanted so badly for the people to forget. To top it off, this cover is striking! The glowing shards of the moon seem to pull you in."⁣

I wish I still felt that enthusiasm! Instead, I feel deflated. This was a lengthy book. Yet somehow, I made it to the end and still have so many questions. The most glaring of them being, "Why was Hollow blamed for Celona shattering and how did it happen?"⁣

Despite my disappointment, I'm still rooting for this story...still rooting for the wreckless, persistant, stubborn un-hero that is Michael Kingman. And if the ending is any indicator, his story's not over yet!⁣

Thanks again to @nickmartellofficial @sagasff and @bookishfirst for my ARC.⁣
