Overall, I enjoyed my experience reading this book. The first hundred or hundred and fifty pages or so took some patience getting through but once I did I was sucked into the world. Court drama and politics always intrigue me in a book and this was no different. My favorite part of the book was the magic system Martell created. It is different than many others that I have read and left me chasing after more information about it.
In terms of world building, I feel like the novel has a very promising start. There were many fascinating elements and details but I would have liked more explanation about some elements. I understand that it can be hard to give enough information about a world without being too infodumpy but still give the reader what they want to know. I hope Martell is able to find that balance in the next book!
