I am intrigued by this short preview - it has a lot of foreshadowing of a good fantasy story. But so far, I have a hard time picturing the story world - where and when, and the context of society. I also don't love the narrative voice, but this isn't my typical type of fantasy, so fantasy lovers may enjoy it!
