The book seems to follow one fairly standard fantasy trope: parent is a traitor, child carries on legacy. It's got an interesting premise and offered a lot of details about the world that were skimmed over. He mentions various castes, the falling moon, and fabrication magic, but doesn't give a lot of information about any of it. I would be interested to see how much he fleshes out
