I thought that the idea behind this book sounded intriguing, "a world where the currency for magical power is one’s memories", but the tone in the book just threw me off. It was past tense, reflective first-person narration, but it felt like I was being told these things rather than seeing/living these moments. The trial scene just felt ridiculous, with everyone jumping out of their seats. It overall did not read like the unique fantasy I was expecting.
