This novel is a great mixture of romance, magic, intriguing beasts and solid characters. There are so many elements that draw the reader in, and so many reasons to want more from this world.
Though you get thrown into the action immediately, it doesn't take long to catch up with what's come before. The author does an excellent job of giving just enough background, but keeping her readers firmly in the "now" of the story so it doesn't get too heavy. I thought this was a book that really balanced a good romance roiling with tension and just a great story taking place in an intriguing world.
Probably one of my favorite aspects of this book was the balance of power between the two main characters. Each equipped with magic and power in their own right, they strike a bargain; a life for charmed beasts. Though like many bargains, there is more involved than either planned, and the chemistry between Noc and Leena is perfect. Leena is a fantastic female character, and her counterpart Noc is done equally well. It has been awhile since I’ve been drawn this completely into a book just because the characters are so incredibly crafted.
If you are looking for a new fantasy with a thoroughly enjoyable romance, look no further! You will not regret beginning this series, and can join the ranks of us impatiently waiting for the next installment!
