This was a really good story, but I wish more world building had been done. I don’t have a solid idea of the technology in this fantasy world, trains, but mounts, there’s just not a lot of anchoring descriptors to give me a sense of the type of time this is, especially with the clothing descriptions. And the Cruor are so vaguely vampire that it’s frustrating. It’s too much guess work for the reader.

I do love Noc, even though the book makes him a bit melodramatic toward the end. Oz, Calem, and Kost are my favorites. I feel like the Myad should seem much more important since he’s featured on the cover but he didn’t have a lot to do. I hope that the author decides to make the world a little richer in the next book.

I don’t normally read romances, so this might be just outside my box.

I received this book as an arc from Bookish.
