Fantastic Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance!
What happens when you mix Pokemon with fantasy romance? You get KINGDOM OF EXILES!
It is been far, far too long since we’ve had a new paranormal romance in the vein of Night Huntress and Kate Daniels, and Martineau delivers. She gives us Leena, an exiled beast charmer doing her best to survive on her own. But her deals lead her to Noc, the guild assassin leader whose emotions are on high-security lockdown. He accepted a bounty on her head and he has her, but first he makes a deal with Leena for her to deliver four beasts.
And so their journey begins. Leena is on the lookout for the perfect beasts for Noc and his men while also searching for a legendary beast for herself, one that could be her ticket out of exile.
Before Leena has the chance to connect with such a beast, the target on her back becomes apparent and Noc does the unimaginable, he protects her. Now Noc isn’t just the leader, he’s got crazy powers and he also has a curse. He knows what kind of beast he wants from Leena, the kind that would be able to free him once and for all. So maybe that’s why he saves Leena? Nah, he’s really just giving his curse the finger and taking a risk.
The world building is amazing, the beasts and the magic system are fantastic, and the secondary characters are strong and well-thought out. Basically, KINGDOM OF EXILES is a great read and an even greater start to a new series. I can’t wait for book two!
