The voice fluctuates between a very casual, modern tone and the more formal tone one might expect from a "traditional" fantasy book, which left me unsure of what style the author is going for. It feels like an urban fantasy, but doesn't have the setting of one. The distinct powers of the Charmers vs the Cruor were interesting, but I felt the two POVs were more like brazen caricatures of what people expect from a fantasy romance rather than well-rounded, believable characters I want to invest in.
