Middle grade is generally not for me

I love YA, so depending on the writing style, some middle grade books are passable if it's a great storyline and slightly more mature writing. This book, however, immediately shows itself as being a 'true' middle grade story. This is not at all a flaw, it just means I'm well outside of its intended audience, and that's fine. Just not for me!
