I found the setting to be quite unique. We get a good sense of what the world is like, but we also are introduced to some things to be curious about. I was drawn in and really hope to read more. It was easy to read, and the description of things was simple, but enough to give you a good sense of it.
Based on the cover there is still a lot more to be discovered. I think it looks like a lot of middle grade books about a magic school, so it isn't original, but it does fit with the genre.
