Judge’s Girls
Three different women dealing with grief three different ways and their past relationships add to their struggle. The patriarch of the family, Judge Joseph Donaldson, dies and leaves them an inheritance with stipulations they must learn to live together. Add alcohol addiction, a rebellious teenager, a stepmother who seems weak and out of touch, a stepdaughter who is resentful of her stepmother’s and dad’s relationship along with being an interracial couple and you have the makings of tumultuous story. Sharina Harris does a good job of leading the reader through this family’s grief and growing pains. I enjoyed the different perspectives from the three women in alternating chapters. Do the women find a way to live together and accept each others special gifts or do they let their differences tear them apart? You have to read Judge’s Girls to find out.
