I am a very empathetic person in my opinion and I just couldn't get a connection with the first impression. But I aslo think that this plot is a mashup of cliches, (mother has a problem, daughter hates her) (person wants to be in the popular crowd but realises it isn't all that its meant to be) (successful person tries to help but ends up losing something big). It just isn't enough to get me invested to make me want to read this book. Although I really like the cover.
