I think what is so intriguing about this book is that you get to view grief through the eyes of three people with different perspectives on the same death. You've got Maya and Ryder, biological daughters of the man who died but who are stepsisters to each other, and then Jeanie who is Ryder's mother, Maya's stepmother. I think the struggles with racial differences will also be a particularly interesting part of this story. It also seems like it will dive deep into the complexities of family and how a remarriage can affect everybody involved differently. I also love a good legal drama so the fact that Maya's part of the story is partially set in a law firm where she is trying to make partner is of interest to me. The characters all seem well-defined on their own and when interacting with each other so I'm interested to see how the situation plays out further. I also think this will be an emotional ride -- while I caught myself chuckling at times, I could just as easily feel myself tear up at others and this was only the first few chapters!
