To start, the cover of this book was simple, but it pulled me in. I wanted to know what the general plot was. If I'd seen this in a book store, I would have picked it up to read the back. Which sounds so simple, but in today's world that actually says a lot.
Reading the synopsis, I immediately identified with Maya. She's a smart, goal-oriented woman. She has a close bond with her father. And she's been left to take care of her sibling in a way that seems more like a parental role. The characters all feel real, like these are actual people I could meet and hear this story from.
