Judge Joe Donaldson has suddenly died and left his second wife Jeanie, his stepdaughter Ryder and his beloved daughter Maya behind to try to pick up the pieces. The interesting part of his will is that he left the family home to Maya but also said that she had to let Jeanie live with her. Jeanie and Maya don’t just not get along..they seem to hate each other! What the two women have in common is their love for Ryder, so it seems that they are going to have to learn to put their animosity to the side and make wise choices for the sake of Ryder. Jeanie has sunk into a pit of alcoholism and grief. Maya is burying herself in work and her quest for a partnership in the law firm. And Ryder seems to be the most level-headed, but also the most needy. I really want to know how these women end up trying to make lemonade out of the lemons they have been given! None of them deserves the death of Judge Joe, but the fact is that he is dead, and they have to move on, regardless of how hard it is to “follow that yellow brick road” together.
