I’ve heard wonderful things about Ruta Septyas and her books but never had the pleasure of reading one before. This excerpt had everything I love about historical fiction - it was gripping right from the start and had information about a little known period (to me) of our recent history.
I lived through this time but I had no idea about the trials and tribulations that Romania was experiencing under Communist rule. This was a rare glimpse behind the curtain and I loved the “thriller” writing style that Ruta deployed here. Seriously can’t wait to read more!
This book will be on my list regardless of whether I’m lucky enough to win the raffle. I believe history repeats itself and it’s incumbent on us to acquaint ourselves with our past to arm ourselves for the future.
The main character was immediately like able and you can completely understand how he gets persuaded to be a spy because he’s worried about his grandfather. I can’t wait to find out what happens.
