Bear with me as I write this review because this book… my heart. It’s been a long time since I hugged a book after I finished it and I’m going to think about the Romanians for a while and every country that’s living under communist regime in 2022.

From the epilogue to the authors note, this book just gutted me. Seeing the communism through the eyes of 17 yo Cristian, and everything he hoped for his country coming to life but at a huge cost…. Bunu, my god Bunu, I almost lost it when I read that part. Then comes the epilogue and my heart just shattered. Needless to say I went down a rabbit hole until 4am googling everything about this part of history.
