Filled with so much fear, despair and hope, this novel is a roller coaster ride of emotions. Following a country on the brink and a teenager full of angst and confusion. State sponsored confusion. Where everyone is a target, pitted against each other like the ravenous dogs left to fend for themselves on the streets.

I love the interjected reports and notes. It gives the reader a very detailed sense of the fear and paranoia the main characters are constantly being subjected to. Christians musings are so poetic and insightful to the rising change in opinions in the country. Insights into his mental state as the story progresses and the continuing evolution of paranoia and fear.

There are bright spots of course, beautiful and intimate interactions. A revolution that is known to history to have “succeeded” but also detailing the pitfalls of what that success ultimately looked like. Following a teenage protagonist this is a wonderful fictionalized version of protest, revolution and change for any audience, but especially likeminded young adults of this generation.
