I fell in love with this story from the first chapter. Luca is a relatable character with a deep care for his grandfather that gets him into service as a spy for the Romanian communist government. I already know that this book will pull out all the emotions that are common for the author's books.
It is easy to feel the tension within Romania due to the author's writing. She immediately is able to give you an idea of what living in Romania during that time period. The constant feeling of being watched and all of the illegal activities that we would call "normal". I didn't know much about this part of Romania's history but feel like it is important to understand. I appreciate the author's ability to take us to that time period and teach us important lessons. I can't wait to read the rest of this book to see what happens to Luca and the people around him.
