A quick and captivating read that did a great job of showing just how dire the situation was in Romania at the end of the Ceaușescu regime. I thought the author did an exceptional job of showing the isolation and constant fear of being monitored that plagued Romanians during this time, and I found the writing to be really accessible and engaging. There were times when I could tell this was YA, which isn't my usual go-to, but despite that, I was turning the pages rapidly, drawn to finding out what would happen next. I liked the inclusion of the reports from the Securitate to show that the paranoia felt by everyone was actually warranted, and there were some good plot twists that I didn't see coming. I do wish that the book was a bit longer just to get more character development, but they still felt solidly fleshed out for how short the book was.
