An intimate look into a lesser known history
"...good luck comes at a price. Bad luck is free."
The newest historical fiction novel by the great Ruta Sepetys. It's an eye-opening look into the revolution in Romania in 1989. To be honest, this time and place in history is something I knew very little about before reading this book. It's insane to see the suffering the citizens of this country were enduring while I was a spoiled, happy toddler in the United States. Sepetys tells an extremely well researched history of this time through the eyes of a teenager named Cristian. The reader grows to truly care about and resonate with Cristian, his family, and friends. If you've read all of Ruta's books or none at all, I highly recommend you read this one.
𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘳: The quote is from a finished copy of the book that I received from Bookish First and Penguin Random House in advance of the publication date. This did not affect my honest review.
