This was a very emotional read. There is a lot to like, and I would definitely recommend this book to people who love historical fiction.
One of the things I really liked about this book was the characterization. The book is written from the perspective of a teenager in Romania named Cristian Florescu. Cristian is an excellent narrator and he is also very easy to root for. The author does an excellent job writing in Cristian's voice as well as creating wonderful relationships, particularly with Cristian's beloved Bunu.
I think Ruta Sepetys also did an excellent job of world building. This isn't a period of time that I'm particularly well-versed in, but I thought she did a great job of flooding this book with details that really helped situate the reader.
I would definitely recommend this book to readers of a variety of ages. It would be a great read for lovers of historical fiction.
