I went down a rabbit hole while reading this first impression because I was that drawn into the storyline. I love historical fiction and the other books that I've read by Ruta Sepetys, so I have high expectations of this one.
Septeys' books are always educational for me as well. Before reading this first impression, I was not even aware of the events that took place in Romania in the late 1980's. Romania is under the rule of a Communist government and Cristian is forced to become a spy. Cristian is forced to spy on the Americans, but he feels a strong sense of betrayal for doing this (as if he is letting down his family and friends). Only the rest of the story can give us the answers to our questions regarding Cristian and his choices. Looking forward to this novel coming out for sure. It will surely not disappoint.
