It's hard to imagine a world this controlled at any time. It's even harder to know that it exists in recent history, and that while I was a young child there were children in other parts of the world that lived like this and my freedoms were a dream state for them. Once again, Sepetys takes a little known part of history and breathes life into it, bringing awareness and sympathy to people in repressed parts of the world.
