I've always associated Ruta Sepetys as writing historical fiction about lesser written about periods of history taking place in lesser written about places and "I Must Betray You" is no exception. Sepetys dives right into the story, explaining the depths of the characters and the world they occupy. While I wish there was a bit more "showing" than "telling" in these preliminary exposition pages, it does help make understanding the place and time period easier to those who don't have any prior knowledge of it (such as myself). This definitely caught my attention!
