Ruta Sepetys has done it again! I can tell from the sneak peek she’s written another story that instantly grabs the reader. She expertly made me feel the suspicion and paranoia the main character, Cristian, feels by using her usual poetic descriptions. Her words created a vivid setting. Anything Cristian said to family and friends made me fear it’d be used against him in the future. I kept asking myself, who could’ve informed on him? Was it a family member, friend, neighbor? I don't want to believe it can be any of them, but no one is trustworthy, especially when desperate, and the Romanian people have so little. I am already hoping none of the heroes come to harm. The sneak peek ends with a cliffhanger. I want to keep reading to find out who betrayed Cristian, to make sure Cristian, his family and friends, survive the mess they’re in and get a happy ending. I can see myself finishing in a day, it’s that good.
