This is a devastating and suspenseful look into a time and place that seems nearly lost to the history books of the West. The Romanian Revolution is something I knew little to nothing about which makes this novel even more intriguing.
Even within the first few chapters I’m already hooked, rooting for Cristian and his family. All of the characters feel so real and honest it’s heartbreaking. Knowing what transpires in 1989 makes the suspense, mystery and anxiety for their near futures even more captivating. I love the addition of the filed report within the story, the cover with the Romanian flag and the cut out symbol of the Communist regime, even the dedication and photo. It lends a hand of authenticity that I find mesmerizing and hope there are more tidbits of “artifacts” throughout.
