I've loved every one of Ruta Sepetys' books that I've read, and I think she may have topped them all with I Must Betray You. This is the story of Romania under Ceasescu, a society where friends and family are expected to inform on each other for the good of the State. No one is safe, no one can truly be trusted. Cristian is a young man whose thoughts cannot be state-controlled. But someone has turned him in, and to protect himself and his family, he must now turn informer. The First Look grabbed me and pulled me right in. It's tense and compelling, and almost painful to read, but so very good.
