I flew through the first 50 pages of this First Impression! Sepetys has a lyrical writing style that simultaneously draws the reader in, while revealing the horror of Communist Romania in 1989. I couldn't help but feel disgust and indignation at the conditions Cristian accepts as normal, and was shocked about the history I never learned about in school.
The jacket cover is interesting as well, depicting a boy with a tattered Romanian flag. I'd heard wonderful things about the beauty of Bucharest, though I had no idea how the Communist rule had changed the city. I absolutely cannot wait to read more!!
