How to Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine is a fun rollercoaster-ride of a thriller. The story follows Alice Lawrence, a high schooler who witnesses her sister’s murder in a cornfield one Halloween. Just when she thought her life was turned upside down in the year that follows, the next Halloween she is taken back to that fateful night to try to figure out who the killer really was.
Ali is an incredibly brave protagonist. Her willingness to go to great lengths to discover who killed her sister made my reading experience enormously enjoyable. I was also surprised by the various plot twists throughout the story…just when I thought I had it figured out for myself, I was proven wrong. I loved this aspect of the book, as I sometimes feel like thrillers are often all too obvious.
Overall, I was very happy with this read. It’s a spooky story that will keep you glued to its pages until the very end. Absolutely perfect for a rainy day in October!
