I didn't read the full synopsis before ordering this book, I just saw the rave reviews, had a bad case of FOMO, and started reading. I was hooked from the very beginning...the book opens with a Queen Bee's Halloween party in some isolated cornfield. She's cajoled some football players into standing in the field with a chainsaw to scare the guests, but when she encounters a stranger with a real chainsaw, the action quickly amps up.

Also at the party is Alice Lawrence, a horror movie buff with dreams of becoming a forensic pathologist, and her beautiful, bubbly sister Claire. To her utter horror, Alice is left to be the sole witness to her sister's murder. She knows exactly who the culprit is, and after her life implodes and her family falls apart, she's at the courthouse ready to testify.

Then things got weird.

A girl who looks exactly like Sidney Prescott from the movie Scream follows her into the bathroom and calmly tells her she's about to put away an innocent person. Shocked and confused by both the girl's appearance and what she's saying, she's knocked out and wakes up the day Claire was murdered...a year before. She has until midnight to find out what really happened to her sister so she can alter her destiny.

Holy Butterfly Effect. Honestly, I wasn't expecting the whole time travel aspect, but it was right there in the blurb. I expected what followed to be corny, but it wasn't. Every detail in this book was perfectly executed, and what Alice found out during her trip down memory lane was NEVER expected. It was a perfect reminder that just like the Final Destination movies tell us, when it's your time, it's your time...you can't change fate. This was an epic good time, and I know it's a standalone, but a sequel would be absolute heaven!
