How to Survive Your Murder follows Alice, whose sister Claire was murdered in a Halloween corn maze one year ago. Since the death of her sister Alice's life has fallen apart. Alice is the only witness and is convinced she knows what happened. During the murder trial she hits her head in the bathroom and is suddenly transported back a year. She has only until midnight to figure out the truth behind Claire's murder. As the bodies pile up, Alice realizes that she did not know her friends and family as well as she had thought.
Alice is a horror super nerd, so the slasher films of the 90s are referenced heavily, making this book both fun and nostalgic. I liked Alice's character and sense of humor. I loved the premise and all the twists and turns taken by the story. I did not guess the killer until close to the end. There were some glaring plot holes and an ending that was unsettling, but it is a horror novel, after all. How to Survive Your Murder is an entertaining, edge-of-your-seat horrorfest arriving just in time for the spooky season. Thank you to BookishFirst for a copy to review.
