Giada Bellatuono is in training to be a guaritrice, a witch that helps heal people. Her family is quite renowned in Positano, Italy for this skill. However, Giada doesn't want to follow her family's path, and wants to help heal animals instead, which is not approved of by her family. When her parents are away on business, Giada's older brother Rocco is kidnapped by witches of legend. Giada must go on a quest to free her brother using the help of some new friends. Can she rescue her brother and become who she wants to be?

I thought this was a super cute introduction book to Giada. How to Heal a Gryphon starts with a hilarious scene of Giada smuggling a baby gryphon to class with her. This is a middle grade book, so the writing isn't as sophisticated, but it's fun. I loved learning about this magical world that includes so many different creatures that you've always heard of. I thought the pacing was slightly off, and not too many things happened in the first half of the book. Otherwise, it's a great start to a new series!

I'd recommend this if you like magical worlds and middle grade novels.
