set in Key West historical fiction: Hidden Cargo

Key West has a special place in my heart, so I love the setting of this novel already. The maps included looked realistic and were done beautifully. However, I didn't really connect with the writing style of this author. It begins very heavily with historical politics related to the period and I caught myself glazing over pretty quickly. I'm picky with what historical fiction I read, so this may be a 'not for me' story and others may enjoy it.
